This historic 1903 house was built by the Rueping family who owned the local tannery. It was constructed with all the most modern conveniences including electric lighting, an elevator, a vacuum system, and even a car wash in the garage.
In 1955, Dr. Albert Balthasor purchased the house from the Rueping family and converted the main first floor rooms into his optometry office. He converted the second floor into two apartments.
Dr. Balthasor was very progressive, offering vision therapy for eye muscle conditions such as exotropia (wandering eye.)

History of 110 E. Division Street
In 1975, Dr. Weston (Wes) Zuege purchased the practice and the house from Dr. Balthazor.
A native of Wild Rose, WI, Dr. Zuege had been serving as a faculty member at his alma mater, the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He returned to Wisconsin with his wife, Sue, and two sons to take over the optometry practice at 110 E. Division Street.
Dr. Zuege and his family renovated the house, converting the former 3rd floor ballroom and servant's quarters into his family's living space.
In 2011, Dr. Zuege and his wife were contemplating retirement. Dr. Conran and Dr. Zuege met that year at an alumni function at the Illinois College of Optometry. After visiting Fond du Lac several times, Dr. Conran bought the house and practice and moved with his family to Fond du Lac at the beginning of 2012.
